What Does Torque Mean?

Common Torque Units: 1 N·m = 10 kg·cm = 0.1 kg·m

The standard torque of the motor is 10 kg·cm. Assuming it drives a pulley:

  • If the pulley radius is 1 cm, the output tension is 10 kg.
  • If the pulley radius is 2 cm, the output tension is 5 kg, and so on.
Torque Concept:

Torque = Tension Perpendicular to the Lever Arm × Lever Arm

Example: Drum Lifting

  • Left diagram: Drum radius (lever arm) = 10 cm, lifting weight = 5 kg

    Required torque = 5 kg × 10 cm = 50 kg·cm
  • Right diagram: Drum radius (lever arm) = 5 cm, lifting weight = 5 kg

    Required torque = 5 kg × 5 cm = 25 kg·cm

From this example, we can see that the lever arm is crucial. Even for the same lifting weight, the required torque varies significantly. Actual calculations are needed for different applications.
