Schneider TeSys LC1D Series AC Contactor 9A–95A

Schneider Electric TeSys LC1D series AC contactors cover 9A, 12A, 18A, 25A, 32A, 40A, 50A, 65A, 80A and 95A (AC-3). They are 3-pole electromagnetic contactors used to start/stop three-phase motors, pumps, fans, compressors, HVAC units, lighting and resistive loads. Coil options include AC24V, AC110V, AC220V and AC380V; mounting is standard 35 mm DIN rail or screw-fixed panel. For motor duty, pair an LC1D contactor with an LRD thermal overload relay.

Rule: Pick LC1D frame whose AC-3 current ≥ motor full-load current. For high ambient temperature, frequent starts, or AC-4 duty, go one frame size up.

FAQ

Is LC1D09 the same as CJX2 / TeSys D style?

LC1D09 shares the TeSys D form factor and DIN-rail footprint with many CJX2-style 9A contactors, but coil codes, certifications and auxiliary details differ. Don't assume electrical interchange without checking coil voltage and approvals.

Can I use a 9A contactor for a 7.5kW motor?

Usually no. A 7.5kW 400V 3-phase motor draws approximately 15A; use LC1D18 minimum, LC1D25 for frequent starts.

Coil voltage vs motor voltage — what matters?

Coil (A1/A2) is the control voltage (24/110/220/380V AC). Motor lines (L1–T1 etc.) are the load voltage (up to 690V). They are separate circuits.

Do LC1D contactors need an overload relay?

For motor control, yes. The contactor switches power; the LRD overload protects the motor from overheating.

3-pole or 4-pole?

3-pole is standard for 3-phase motors. 4-pole is used when one pole switches neutral or for certain single-phase/control schemes.

Field Experience Note

In field panels we usually size the contactor from the motor nameplate FLA, not from kW alone. A 4kW motor at 400V is about 8.5A, so LC1D09 is okay; a 5.5kW motor is about 11A, so LC1D12; an 11kW motor is about 22A, so LC1D25. If the panel runs in a hot enclosure or the motor starts 20+ times per hour, move up one frame. Always mount the LRD overload directly under the contactor and feed the coil from a clean control supply.
